Everything is fine.

Young as a weed, I am.
Quick as a wink.
Hot as sunrays
Burning through morning haze.

Everything is fine.

Eyes made of sky, I have.
Blue, orange, and pink.
Irises of sunset,
Except the sky has no regret.

Everything is fine.

Soul's cold as iron, mine is.
Brittle as old snow.
Tired as a wide highway,
Stretched straight for states.

But everything is fine.

Time rushes on, I know.
Dark, deep, and slow.
Moving only forward,
Ignorant of sinking stones.

Everything is fine.

Hard to move on, I think,
When sky-eyes look backward,
Leaving my ass
To find its own way.

Everything is fine.

Up is still the clouds, it seems.
Down is still the ground.
Just need to clear my sky-eyes,
And turn my ass around.

Yep. Everything is fine.

Defining a Season Defining a Season

The names given to this time of year are as arbitrary as their corresponding strings of symbols: F-A-L-L, A-U-T-U-M-N—without countless generations of context they are but meaningless glyphs, scratches on slate that scarcely define the season they signify.

Let us instead identify the start of the year's waning third by something more substantial, for the season isn't defined by letters on a page. It's defined by a growing crispness to the air; by tree leaves blushing their favorite hues of sunset before descending from shivering limbs, dancing down to Earth on the cool breeze.

Unsure I'm stuck so I came unglued.
I was angry like I've seldom been--
at my life, at myself, at you.

I'm scared to leave the place I know.
Afraid failure waits wherever I'd move.
What's my life been but failure, though?

Without confidence, it's hard to be brave.
It's hard to leap without faith.
Or maybe that's what bravery is--moving on when I'd rather cave.

How do I start my life anew?
So much of what I knew was wrong.
What I'd built my life upon was untrue.

So I sit amongst the shards of my broken identity
trying to piece together a more honest self.

I didn't write a word the past week. I feel awful about it.
Work is busy this time of year (holiday season) so as it got closer to Thanksgiving, I had less and less time to write at work. I had a friend get married on Thanksgiving, plus I had a couple of Thanksgiving dinners to go to. All mixed in with repainting and cleaning the heck out of my house to get it ready to be rented (hopefully) this weekend.
November's a bad month for me apparently. Last time I tried this, in 2009, I was getting married on the 14th and going on a honeymoon Thanksgiving week.

I wish October was National Novel Writing Month. But, hey, I'm sure I would come up with excuses not to finish then too!

I am going to try to write 50k words in December though. I think I have a good shot at that. I'm guessing my book will be around 300k words long judging by how far the plot has gotten in about 26,000 words. If I can write 50k words a month from now on, maybe I'll have something publishable by next November.

Holy God this was a long reply. I tend to be long-winded when it comes to making excuses. Please pardon my babbling.

How about you, did you get all finished? And can I read it? Everyone needs a beta-reader.

Ooooh. I did finish my nanowrimo, yes (as I have said in the other comment.)
It's....SO rough that I think...um....would you like to read it? Truly?
Because it's terribly TERRIBLY rough. I think I'm only going to pull out
a few scenes from it.

Um, okay. I have to warn you though. I'm streaky. I'll be on DA for like 3 hours a day for a month, then I'll go a few weeks without submitting anything or even getting on the site.
